International Cyclocross Preview
International Cyclocross Preview for weekend of 16th-17th November 2013
Thanks to John Mullineaux of Cross Crazy for this preview…
Your cross action over November 17/18th weekend comes courtesy of the fearsome Gavere course in Belgium, log jumping at Hasselt and the sound of jingle bells in the USA. Plus there’s Czech and Swiss cross.
Bpost Bank Trofee – GP Hasselt, C1 – November 16th
The infamous log jumps had been ‘stolen’ in the days leading up to the race in 2012/13 and their replacements were not as severe, but even so they did create huge drama when Pauwels and Nys seemed to tangle in mid air leading to the former crashing to the ground – follow this link to see the crash. From there on Nys and Albert moved away, although for a little while it looked like Pauwels might get back on, but he didn’t and in the final laps Nys showed his power to gap Albert.

Hansgrohe Superprestige Gavere, C1 – November 17th
The fearsome course at Gavere, Belgium plays host to round four of the World’s premier domestic series, the Superprestige. This is the course that saw Niels Albert taken to intensive care a few years back when he crashed on one of the steepest, roughest and best avoid the trees, descents in cyclo cross. When we visited the place we assumed that the youth riders would have a short cut but they didn’t.
