Francesca Selva, Q&A
The next rider in our Q&A series is Francesca Selva. She’s a fixed gear lover, happy to ride UCI Track Champion League or Red Hook Criteriums. You’ll also see her on the road and in the mud. Take it away Francesca!
How did you get in to cycling?
It’s all because of my big brother. I was going to watch his races when I was eight and I tried it for myself and liked it.
Did you/do you have a cycling hero?
Peter Sagan.
How did you get into racing?
Again, it’s all my brother’s fault! He was racing and I liked it, just like any eight year old.
You’ve had a good season what was your highlight?
Well, it was a really short season. I had some problems and I only started to race in July, but I got so many results. The highlight was probably being selected for the UCI Track Champions League
You rode the UCI track events, did the fact it was televised add to the stress?
Yes, it did. Being the only Italian in the bunch – knowing that everyone was looking at me – was so stressful for me.
What’s the best way to win sprint or solo?
Sprint
What would you have changed this year? Tactics/training/kit?
Since July, nothing technically. maybe just my attitude. At the UCI Track Champions League, I was putting too much pressure on myself.
Track racing seems to happen all year, do you have a season?
We don’t have a season! So I will not have an off season, but happily, I like that I love racing on the track.
Favourite type of riding, track, road, off-road?
Track 100%! After track, cyclo-cross and then road.
What do you do when not riding, is there time for other pursuits?
I work and I’m studying at university, and also I love to spend time with my family and friends when I can!
What’s your favourite ride, could be a place, with a certain group or person?
Riding in the Dolomites. I spend all my summers there, the beautiful landscapes make me love my bike even more.
Where would you like to ride?
I like to explore the world with my bike, so I could say everywhere!
Favourite bit of kit?
Skinsuit.
Best post-race food/drink?
Beer, to celebrate!
Francesca Selva rides for Team Torelli on a Handsling TR3evo.
Thanks Francesca, good luck with the coming races!
