Festive Season International CycloCross 2013/14

The Christmas and the New Year Festive season is a great excuse to hold large numbers of top class cyclocross races. UCI World Cup Boxing Day cross is followed by night time Superprestige action and bpost Bank Trofee rounds.

The bpost Bank Trofee – Grand Prix Sven Nys to be held on January 1 2014 has the extra interest of being the first race where riders debute for new teams or on a new brand of bike. Watch out for Lars Van Der Haar in Argos Shimano kit, but still riding a Giant and almost unbelievably Sven Nys on a Trek!

UCI World Cup CycloCross 5 – Zolder – December 26

The fifth round of the UCI World Cup cyclo cross is the manic and super popular boxing day cross held at the Zolder motor racing circuit.

The simple scenario to this event is that the fans after a Christmas Day spent with family taking the intake of food and drink to excess, go crazy!

A few days before Christmas Francis Mourey and Katie Compton won the UCI World Cup at Namur. They will be joined by Zdenek Stybar making a rare appearance now that he’s a ‘roadie’- UCI World Cup Namur Report

Elite Men
Niels Albert, Klaas Vantornout and Zdenek Stybar moved away from the rest and gained a good lead. Vantornout was to fall back into the clutches of the chasing Kevin Pauwels.

With two lap to go Stybar attacked and soon had a a useful advantage, but with the bell ringing Albert mounted a comeback and the race was settled on the final lap.

Sven Nys had a nightmare race having fallen a number of times into the mud, he went into the crowd to have words with a spectator who had thrown a cup at him.
