Giant celebrate Lars Van De Harr’s breaking into the the elite level of world class cyclocross.
In the 2012/13 cyclocross season two time under 23 World Champion Lars Van Der Haar opted not to ride the younger race category but to take on the World’s best riders in the men’s elite race. That season saw him become a worthy competitor, but not a winner.

A year on he has blown open the doors of the race field by winning the first round of the UCI World Cup at his home cross of Valkenburg in the Netherlands. He followed that up with a win at the second round at Tabor in the Czech Republic. Since then he has featured not only in the World Cup but also across the calendar of top flight races.
For many Van De Haar’s success and that of German rider Phillipe Wasleben (a fellow under 23 World Champion) is a breath of fresh air in the world previously dominated by Belgian riders under the stranglehold of Sven Nys, Kevin Pauwels and Niels Albert. Of the five UCI World Cup races held so far this season three have been won by Van Der Haar, one by Frenchman Francis Mourey (Namur) and only the Koksijde race won by a Belgian with Niels Albert. At the latest round held at Zolder on Boxing day, won by Van Der Haar, there wasn’t a Belgian on the podium!
Van Der Haar’s has broken through the glass ceiling that Belgian riders had erected and he is one reason why when Rabobank pulled out of top flight road racing they remained in cyclocross, to support not just him but also Dutch country woman Marianne Voss.
Although from January 1 Van Der Haar switches to the Argos Shimano team he will still be riding a Giant bike.
