He’s been world champion and won many jerseys over his short career and, whilst some may say its not as big a deal, Mark Cavendish, arguably the greatest road sprinter ever, now he has the jersey he was missing – that of National Road Race Champion.
We certainly think its a big deal and we are very excited to think that a rider with a real chance of stage success in this year’s Tour will be starting in the British Champion’s jersey.
Plus the way Cav won it, from a very select, very hard working breakaway group, on a lumpy circuit, chasing two escapees for much of the race, shows he has some exceptional form and is on target to challenge the favourite, Peter Sagan – who also won his National championship in Slovakia – for the coveted Tour de France Green Jersey. If you like to have a bet, then this display by Cav makes where exactly to put your money a whole lot tougher…
Obviously we are biased and we’d love to see the Manx Missile win Green. There’s going to be a lot of people shouting “Come on, Cav!” thus July.
