3 Peaks Cyclocross
Dave Haygarth has a great 3 Peaks Blog which provided us with this excellent YouTube video. We quote Dave, “Film here from Mike Simmonds. As I said to Mike in a comment on Youtube, ” Hard to get enough footage singlehandedly to capture the race but this works succinctly and flows well.” – I love this film.” And so do we.
Our favourite bit, which totally sums up the 3 Peaks, is the scene of early in the race with Hope Factory Racing’s Rob Jebb, bike slung on his back, climbing the hillside, almost on his hands and knees – and he was the winner! And then you see the army of already exhausted riders behind him, also crawling up the hillside as if on some great, mid-war military expedition. It’s how I imagine Rome’s great enemy, the Carthaginian General Hannibal crossing the Alps; a long line of sorry souls trailing after their irrepressible general (Jebb on this case), knowing that worse is to come on the other side… All that’s missing are some elephants; next year maybe?
Finally we had to show this video as well. This is the great Barry Mordue of Crosstrax. He rode a good race to finish in 04:01:59, less than an hour behind the winner. How you might ask, does one prepare for such a gruelling event? Well here’s Barry’s way. Warning its priceless!
