News Update about the Tour of Cambridgeshire
With less than a month to go to the start of Tour of Cambridgeshire, the organisers, Vericool have released some exciting news.
The Tour of Cambridgeshire is already a stand-out event being a closed road Gran Fondo style event and Time Trial over the weekend of the 6th and 7th of June. With big money cash prizes for men and women in the TT and Fondo, finishing in the top 25% of the TT would also get you an invitation to the UCI’s World Cycling Tour World Championships in Aalborg, Denmark.
Vericool have now told us that the top 25% of finishers in each age group in male and female Masters categories of the closed road Gran Fondo on Sunday 7th June, will also will qualify for the UCI World Amateur Road Championships and a chance to wear the coveted world champion’s rainbow jersey – that will beat any Strava KOM hands down!
This is the first ever UWCT Gran Fondo to take place in the UK and for the first time allows riders the chance to qualify for the Amateur World Championships without having to travel abroad to do so. With fourteen events spread over twelve countries it’s a truly global event.
With entries for the Tour of Cambridgeshire already over 5000 and climbing, the competition is going to be stiff, although realistically those actually going for the win will be slightly less! The majority of riders will be enjoying the chance to ride on traffic free roads and the weekend’s festivities; still it doesn’t hurt to dream…
We did an event preview of the Tour Of Cambridgeshire recently here on BritishCycleSport and hope to do a course recce soon. Meanwhile have a look at the video below from the UCI to get a flavour of what you could be riding this June.
