The Tour of the Cornfields, 100km cyclo-cross sportive makes a welcome return.
Hackney GT cycle fashion label and event promoters announce the return of the original cyclo-cross sportive, the Tour of the Cornfields on Sunday 6th September 2015.
The latest addition to the growing roster of ‘cross sportives is the Tour of the Cornfields. This fully way-marked 100km circular route – the organisers reckon it’s a 50/50 mix of trail and tarmac – starts in Royston, Herts and takes in the beautiful Herts and Cambs countryside.
The route is mainly flat with only one major climb, but the organisers reckon you’ll be kept on your toes by the constantly changing trail surface and if the wind is blowing, get ready to grovel!
There is one feed and mechanical stop with indoor toilets on the course at half way point so riders will need to carry any additional food and spares needed to last the 100km distance. Refreshments will also be available for purchase after the event at Wimpole Hall.
Russ Jones, Hackney GT owner and cyclo-cross racer explains why he has brought this iconic event back; “I’ve wanted to organise a cyclo-cross sportive for years so when the opportunity to bring the Tour of the Cornfields back came up I jumped at it. I was gutted I’d never managed to ride it previously as I’d heard so many good things about it from those taking part. We have already successfully resurrected the Beastway mountain bike race series so will be using our organisational experience to allow more people to enjoy this classic cyclo-cross inspired event”.
As in previous editions the field will be limited to 300 riders for safety and also enjoyment on the narrow sections. All profits from the event will go towards helping youth riders in the Eastern Cyclo-Cross League so you’ll be doing some good as well.
