The 226 mile Chain Reaction Cycles Etape Xtrem
Always Aim High Events recently released additional places for their ultra-cycling event, the Chain Reaction Cycles Etape Xtrem, which is billed as the UK’s toughest and longest one-day cycle sportive, and sold out its original number of places in just 2 hours…
The Chain Reaction Cycles Etape Xtrem is a supported one-day cycle sportive which will be run as part of the famous Snowdonia cycle sportive – the Etape Eryri. Rather than just picking one of the Etape Eryri’s gorgeous 3 routes – the Mawr – 103 miles, the Canol – 76 miles and the Bach 47 miles – the riders will be required to cycle all three in under 18 hours!
The Etape Eryri and Etape Xtrem will take place on Sunday 21st June 2015. The Etape Eryri’s 3 routes will be enjoyed by 2,000 riders, while the Xtrem will be tackled by just 250 very hardcore cyclists.
The Etape Eryri will have a festival feel for both competitors and the local community alike, with live music, displays, activities and other attractions to keep the whole family amused.
The riders of the Etape Xtrem will be fully looked after, with mobile support teams and food provided around the course and exclusive Etape Xtrem Salomon t-shirt and a bespoke Chain Reaction Cycles goody bag.
After launching the extra places in the event, Tim Lloyd, Always Aim High Events Director, explained, “Since the event sold out, our admin team have been bombarded with emails from hundreds of cyclists expressing their disappointment in not getting a place and asking to be added to the waiting list, we have received over 500 requests to take part.”
Tim continued, “The Always Aim High Events ethos has always been about participation, providing what the participants want, and making our events as welcoming as possible. During the last fortnight we have had lengthy discussions how the logistics would work for opening up this event to more people. Amongst other things we have considered how the feed stations and support will be organised over an 18 hour period, and we have every confidence that we can put on an incredible and safe event for a total of 250 riders on the Xtrem.”
Remember that in total it’s 226 miles, over three routes, in just 18 hours, and not called the UK’s Longest and Toughest one-day cyclosportive for no reason. There’s also the small matter of approximately 4000m (13,000ft) of climbing to deal with – make sure you are fit before attempting this one.
