How to stretch like a Pro

We all know we should stretch after training. But if you can combine stretching with core work then you can literally kill two birds with one stone. And with that in mind here’s a great little video from the Global Cycling Network (GCN) in which Topi Lösönen, CEO of Finnish fitness company Fustra and trainer for the IAM cycling team, gives some brief tips on the sort of stretching with core work that we as cyclists need to be doing every day…
As such the title is a little misleading, as its not just stretching. We’ve done a lot of different stretch and core routines over the years, and this one is excellent. Its relatively short and stretches the main cycling muscles plus it gives you that much needed core strength at the same time.
The exercise routine consists of:
1. Hip Flexor Stretch
2. Side Stretch
3. Hamstring Stretch
4. Butterfly Stretch
5. Squat Stretch
6. Rotation Stretch
7. Hamstring / Push Up with Ball
8. Finnish Chair Stretch
Watch the video to see how you should perform each exercise. Topi recommends that for best results you perform the exercises on a daily basis and with only 8 exercises there’s no excuse really…
