Wyndymilla’s Bedford 3 Day

The Bedford 3-Day Women’s Stage Race
There are some very encouraging signs for women’s domestic cycling; this year the Bedford 3-Day Women’s Stage Race, part of the Women’s Team Series, attracted a bumper field of 17 teams and one hundred experienced racers. In fact this year’s field was so strong that race organiser, Jon Miles, decided to add an extra day; as if it wasn’t tough enough already!
I went along, in support of my girlfriend, Monica DaPolenza, and the rest of the Wyndymilla Women’s team, a Surrey based amateur team consisting of 6 experienced riders. This was my third time at the Bedford 3-Day race, so I was expecting much “blood, sweat and tears”.
Before the start of the first stage I spoke with Catherine Hills, Wyndymilla team DS and rider about her plans for the race. “The racing is tough as your competing with pro-cycling teams,” she stated. “We’ll try to place all our riders well on each stage, and if a rider is highly placed overall we’ll support them the best we can.”…(continued on page 2)>
