Orbital Cycling Festival
Orbital Cycling Festival
July 2013
If you have the ‘post-Tour de France blues’ – it can take over your life for 3 weeks can’t it? – and are looking for something to do this weekend to overcome your withdrawal symptoms, then why not head down to the Goodwood Motor Racing circuit in Sussex and the inaugural Orbital Cycling Festival, a new event which combines two of the trendiest things there are – cycling and festivals! What’s not to love?
With races for men and women, an exhibition, and the superb backdrop of the world famous Goodwood Motor Circuit, the Orbital Cycling Festival 2013 should be an event to remember…
To give you an example of some of the great races they have lined up, here’s a few of our favourites: The COLNAGO X + 1: a Road Race taking place on FRIDAY PM for Men, Women & Youths in a ‘single wave, mixed start’, and the Tutti Frutti Scratch Race on SUNDAY PM, in both of which riders have 45mins to complete as many laps of the circuit as possible. Or how about the Hurricane on SATURDAY AM, again for Men, Women & Youths. Run as a single wave, mixed start, this race is a just one, 3.8km, single flying lap of the Goodwood track – should be interesting!
There’s loads more events, including a Keirin, an Eliminator race sponsored by Isaac bikes, a Dirty Critter cyclocross race, a Cooper sponsored fixie race, and also casual circuit, CTC and Sustrans Family Rides. There will also be special events for Brompton owners, including the prestigious Brompton World Championships.
If you are wondering how to get to the festival and like an adventure there’s a Randonneur that goes all the way from the Look Mum No Hands cafe in London to the Orbital Festival, via Brighton! There are also plenty of Family Rides and Youth Racing.
As well as the races and events, there will also be the ‘Paddock Expo’ which is described as the ‘beating heart of the festival’, featuring lots of cool products, and giving visitors the opportunity to buy, or just browse through, bikes and cycling related goods.
The organisers also have 400 camping plots, for campervans, caravans and tents, with showering and toilet facilities. Plus there are bars and restaurants in the Goodwood Hotel, which is just a short walk away.
