Continental Welsh Wild West Sportive 2014
Entries are now open for the 2014 Continental Welsh Wild West
Comprising the final event of the Aberystwyth Cycling Festival weekend, the second Continental Welsh Wild West Sportive takes place on Sunday 25th May 2014.
Aberystwyth and the surrounding area of Ceredigion boasts some of the quietest and most scenic roads in the UK, with the backdrop of Cardigan Bay and Cambrian mountain range to ensure an enjoyable day in the saddle.
Choose from three distances of 40 miles (Y Corrach), 70 miles (Y Mynach) or 100 miles (Y Cawr) miles, tackling the counties major climbs including Nant y Moch, the alleged hideout of the last indigenous Prince of Wales, Owain Glyndwr; The Arch near the famous Devils Bridge falls which sports a mysterious stone ‘arch’ across the summit of the climb; and Tychrug near Lampeter which is perhaps one of the most under rated road climbs in Wales with views of three counties from the summit.
Sponsored by Continental Tyres, the event is backed up by Continental UK’s fleet of four ‘service course’ vehicles, and two motorcycle stewards. Each competitor also receives a free gift from the sponsor. Feed stations are backed up by High 5. The free homemade cooking at the Race HQ at the finish is not to be missed.
The event is run by Ystwyth Cycling club who have been organising races and events in the area since the 1950’s, including a round of the Pearl Izumi Tour Series, The Tour of Mid Wales and The ‘Conquer the Cliff’ Downhill Race.
So why not spend all weekend in the University coastal town of Aberystwyth to enjoy the thrills and spills of the criterium racing on the Friday evening and the Cliff Downhill MTB races on Saturday, before taking on your own challenge on Sunday in the Continental Welsh Wild West Sportive? Sounds like a good weekend to us.
