The Spanish sportive, La Ruta Minera, is back for 2015
Fancy a tough, mountainous cyclosportive that’s just a short hop from the UK’s major airports? Situated not far from the popular holiday hotspot of Barcelona, La Ruta Minera might fit the bill…
La Ruta Minera is 166km long and the mountainous route has a total ascent of 4150m, making it one of the toughest Spanish cyclosportives. At 1732m the Coll de Pradell, a mountain pass of 21km in length, an average slope of 7.1% and a 23% maximum gradient, is one of the toughest Catalonian passes and is reported to be a prime candidate to be included in a future edition of La Vuelta a EspaƱa.
Besides that there are another five mountain passes of over 1000m to be climbed on a route through the stunning Catalan Pre-Pyrenees, a relatively unknown yet rewarding cycling experience.
Though tough the route is achieveable; in 2014 there were 477 starters and 446 finishers. This year is the second edition of the event, starting int he town of Berga on July 19th, 2015. Registration was opened on February 15th and the organisers have extended the entry this year to allow 1000 cyclists to take part.
