Of course it also meant revenge for Cavendish’s Etixx Quick Step team after they cocked up royally on Saturday, having let Ian Stannard win Omloop despite having three men in the break with him.
You can imagine the team’s collective sighs of relief after Cav did the business for them. And you can also imagine Cav’s personal sigh of relief after all the talk of him being past his best, having to make way for new sprinting talent coming into the team and so on. He’s definitely still got it!
Cav rode a great race to be in the front all race and one of five riders from super team, Etixx Quick Step, to make the front group after the race split.
