Paris-Roubaix

Paris-Roubaix, the Hell of the North, the Queen of the Classics. Even if you are new to cycling you have probably heard of this famous old race. What makes it so special? Well this great film from Aussie team Orica GreenEdge shows you why its regarded so highly by so many riders.

Next CG Inlux’s short film centres on the Forest of Arenberg which is the most famous stretch of cobbles in the race and she describes thus:

‘Running dead straight through the ghostly forest of Arenberg over the tunnels and underground railroad of the defunct mines, it is not decisive but it is the most iconic 2.4 kilometers of the race. Its brutality is legendary and rarely exaggerated. It is not a kind road.’

Finally Blanco Pro Cycling team have a great video featuring before and after facial shots of their riders. It shows the huge effort put in by the riders after 254 km which included 27 sectors (53 km) of cobbles. Sep Vanmarcke finished second.

British riders didn’t really feature in the finale, with top Brit being National Champion, Ian Stannard. Geraint Thomas, Luke Rowe and Russell Downing were the only other British finishers – no small achievement in itself at Roubaix.

British riders did enjoy more success that day though, as Tao Geoghegan Hart claimed a podium place in the junior edition of the race with third place. The future of British Cycling is solid as Oliver Wood was 6th, Scott Davies 19th and Jake Ragan 26th to give Great Britain second place in the team competition behind the Belgians.
