UCI World Cyclo-Cross Championships 2012/13

The World Championships of 2012/13 was held outside Europe for the first time at Louisville, Kentucky, USA on February 2, 2013.

Elite men
Francis Mourey did much of the early running before first Kevin Pauwels made contact with him and then Sven Nys and Klaas Vantornout. Pauwels fell back as Lars Van Der Haar moved through to 3rd.

With the race end in sight, Nys attacked to take his second only title.

Women
There was no stopping Marianne Vos as she powered to another world title. Behind, Katy Compton had begun slowly and she had to work herself up to 2nd, but she was never able to trouble Voss.

After a fantastic fight for 3rd fought by a number of riders, Katerina Nash sitting in the spot with just the straight to go, developed problems with her bike and Lucie Chainel Lefevre swooped by to snatch it away from Nash.

Gabby Day and Helen Wyman both suffered in a first lap crash and Wyman did well to race to 13th.

With ice and snow thawing the course Mike Tuenissen and Wietse Bosmans moved away from the rest and at race end it was the former who had the strength to escape.

Juniors
A dominate win for Mathieu Van Der Poel followed in a lonely 2nd by Martijn. 3rd saw a good battle which eventually went to Adam Boulik.

Hoogerheide 2012/13

Hoogerheide was the scene of the final round of the UCI World Cup held in a snow and ice landscape. The surprise winner was Martin Bina although Marianne Voss won as was expected on the day.
